Kristin Davis is currently starring as bubbly senatorial wife Mabel Cantwell in The Best Man, making her the final member of Sex and the City’s fab four to debut on the Great White Way. Before deciding to join John Stamos on Broadway, the actress sought the advice of a very dear friend—Tony winner Cynthia Nixon.
“I always run everything by her,” Davis told Broadway.com of Nixon, recalling that her pal immediately responded, “You absolutely have to do this. Don’t pause for a second. Run, run, run back to New York.” Davis agreed, noting, “You just don't get this opportunity, with this cast and such beautiful writing.”
Nixon was the first Sex and the City alum to see Davis’ Rialto debut, and with Sarah Jessica Parker’s husband Matthew Broderick starring in Nice Work If You Can Get It “right across the street,” it's only a matter of time before the two City girls reunite. Kim Cattrall is currently working in Romania, “but I’ve been getting super sweet, supportive e-mails,” she added.
Davis, who saw Cattrall in Private Lives and Nixon's Tony-nominated turn in Wit last season, is thankful she heeded her friend's urging to debut in The Best Man. “I had to wait for the right opportunity,” she said. “This was it!”
Watch for Broadway.com's full Q&A with Davis on August 13.
